The Honorable [Member of Congress’s Name]

[Address of Congressional Office]

Dear [Representative/Senator] [Last Name],

I am writing to you not only as a constituent but as someone deeply committed to defending the Constitution and the democratic principles that define our nation. Like you, I took an oath to support and defend the Constitution, and I believe every American has a civic duty to speak out when those principles are under threat.

As you know, President Donald Trump has taken a series of actions since returning to office that many legal scholars and public servants have described as unconstitutional and anti-democratic. These include:

  • Pardoning more than 1,500 convicted January 6th rioters, including individuals who assaulted law enforcement officers.
  • Defying lawful court orders and weaponizing federal agencies against political opponents.
  • Withholding congressionally appropriated funds and violating statutory protections for civil servants.

These are not simply political disagreements; they are direct challenges to the rule of law and the checks and balances that protect us all.

I am part of a growing coalition of veterans and concerned citizens called Ragtag. We are a non-partisan, veteran-led group of Americans who believe that defending the Constitution should transcend politics. We are urging every member of Congress—regardless of party—to uphold their oath of office to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.”

I am asking you, as my elected representative, to:

  1. Publicly speak out against any executive actions that violate constitutional principles, regardless of who benefits politically.
  2. Support investigations and legislative oversight into these abuses of power.
  3. Commit to defending the independence of the judiciary, law enforcement, and civil service against political retaliation.

The strength of our democracy depends on leaders who put country before party. Your voice matters. Will you stand up publicly and unequivocally for the Constitution?

Thank you for your service to our country and for considering this urgent request. I look forward to hearing how you plan to address these issues.

Respectfully,

[Your Name]
